Here at Pickups For Breast Cancer, we admit to being a little selfish. We want people to rid themselves of clutter so we can pick up their unwanted items and turn them into good for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation! But it turns out that clearing clutter is more than just good for your “space”; it’s also good for your mind.
Peter Walsh, an expert on helping people declutter their homes and their lives, explains it this way in an interview on Oprah.com:
My clients say things like, “I was buried under all that stuff,” “I was drowning,” “I feel like I’m suffocating.” We use those metaphors because clutter robs us of life. It robs us socially, when we’re too embarrassed to have people over. It robs us spiritually, because we can’t be at peace in a cluttered home. And it robs us psychologically, by stealing our ability to feel motivated in our space.
So look around your home. Is there one or two places in it that are constantly tugging at you, cluttering up your mind with woulda, coulda , shouldas? Are there piles of books you’ll never read, toys that your kids have abandoned or kitchen appliances and tools that never seem to make it out of their cabinets?
If they are there constantly reminding you of what you haven’t done, DONATE them. You will feel so much better psychologically. Not only will you have released yourself from a gnawing burden but you will be helping others with the donations that you make.
If you live in the South Florida area, anywhere from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, Boca to West Palm Beach, consider scheduling a donations pickup with 162.243.204.243. Take back your space and your sanity while helping others. It doesn’t get any better than that!
