Donation Pickup in Sunrise
Relocating to Florida? Or just visiting? Well, the city of Sunrise might just be the perfect place for you. Here’s your inside scoop on the city of Sunrise, beginning with its rich history, economy, and demographics, and ending with its main free Sunrise pickup service for everyone living in or passing through Sunrise.
In 1960, Norman W. Johnson, a land developer of the time, bought 2,650 acres just north of Plantation for ten million dollars and began development. Because the village was next to a golf course and near “Sunrise Boulevard,” Johnson conveniently named the area “Sunrise Golf Village.” Although the city officially incorporated in 1961 under the same alias, ten short years later, it became the city of “Sunrise” through an official, general vote.
Initially, Sunrise housed only 4,300 total population; however, the town started attracting visitors thanks to Johnson’s “Upside-Down House.” He created a whimsical museum on Sunset Strip where furniture was permanently put into place upside-down. Even the decorations in the garden were planted upside down. The Upside-Down promotion earned Johnson a two-page spread in “Life” magazine. The publicity stunt was a huge hit and drew over a million visitors to Sunrise city until the house was demolished in the ‘70s.
Within the past ten years, Sunrise has invested about $325 million in capital improvement projects, making this city the highest contributor to public investment compared to any other city in Broward County. It also makes Sunrise city a prime example of well-managed government funds, because not only has it managed $325 million in improvement projects, but it also steadily decreased the property tax rate. Maybe it’s the outstanding management of the city that has created such a charitable community, but the residents of Sunrise are one of the highest contributors to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. With its high investments in the public, it’s no wonder that the residents want to give back and schedule a donation pickup in Sunrise. This way, they can donate unwanted items and still contribute to a good cause, even when they are away! Anyone in Sunrise can schedule a driver to head to their specified location and leave their items outside, so they can spend the day visiting the many allures of the colorful city of Sunrise.
Sunrise has many wonderful things to explore, for instance, a one-of-a-kind wildlife sanctuary serving as a learning center about the ecological heritage of the city. The Sawgrass Sanctuary is a 20-acre park and learning center that preserves and protects the environment with detailed displays explaining the park’s four dominant native ecosystems. As you can see, Norman W. Johnson could only dream of what the city of Sunrise has become today.
Remaining true to its origins, Sunrise still has several golf courses that make for world-class playing fields, such as the “Sunrise Golf Course” which has held many international tournaments over the years.
