You can schedule your donation pickup in Plantation, Florida with the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF), because it is a part of our service pickup area in South Florida. It is one of the many cities where we provide a free pickup service where you can schedule your pickup for a date that you choose. If you are redecorating your home or simply thinking about throwing away some items, you could donate any used clothes, household knick-knacks, electronics and furniture to a good cause: funding breast cancer research.
Before Plantation became a donation pickup service area, one of the original settlers, Frederick Peters, moved with his family to the region in 1931 to escape the harsh Midwest winters. He purchased 10,000 acres along State Road 7/441, which had been built to connect Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County. The land in Plantation was isolated and far west from civilization and development. Mr. Peters hired the great architect, Russell Pancoast, to develop a City master plan.
The plan’s most important detail is it dictated an ordinance that prevented the homes next to each other from looking alike, hoping future land developers would purchase long acres of land so a community of farmers could grow. The city started with just five-hundred people, and with that populace and a budget of just $1,288, the city became incorporated on April 20, 1953.
Today, Plantation, Florida boasts a population of nearly 85,000 with 55 cultures. It has come a long way from the small city it used to be. However, some things stayed the same, in accordance to Peters’ Master Plan. Plantation retains its original home town charm. With Community events, parades, donation pickups and holiday celebrations throughout the year, Plantation has kept its pioneering, lively spirit.

Hoffman and members of the Plantation Woman’s Club as a volunteer library to help local children with their homework, it was originally called the Plantation City Library. This grand public library is one of the few municipal libraries in the county where most libraries are regionally operated today.
