Miramar was founded by A.L. Mailman who built fifty-six homes made of concrete and flat roofs for inexpensive development. Thanks to the low prices of the properties that were just built, the future Miramar residents came pouring in. About two hundred people settled in Miramar by the time it incorporated as a city in 1955. The city of Miramar was named after the summer home that its founder frequented, a Cuban city outside of Havana called Miramar. Miramar means “Look-Sea” in Spanish to mean “look at the sea” in one colloquial abbreviation.

Miramar had no major transportation routes for its time, so Miramar’s forefathers originally advocated the philosophy of planned and controlled growth to create some. Miramar employed a comprehensive Land Development plan in 1972, long before other cities were officially required to do so in the state.

After all these years, the city has stayed true to its motto “Beauty and Progress,” carefully crafting a plan to develop any new land before acting. Miramar still has plenty of room to grow, as it one of the largest cities in the state of Florida.

Following suit with its motto, the Miramar Cultural Center and Arts Park was created to celebrate creativity and diversity.  Located in the heart of the Miramar Town Center, the Miramar Cultural Center & Arts Park can be seen while driving on Red Road. The Miramar Cultural Center presents beautiful works of classical master pieces and full-length productions such as Swan Lake, casted by local ballet studios. Other presentations include multicultural and diverse acts such as Colombian Andrés López’s standup comedy. Among many other notable roles, Lopez was cast as one of the main characters in the Universal Studios’ film “The Secret Life of Pets,” the Spanish dub.

The Miramar Town Center is indeed located in the center of the city, north of Miramar Parkway between Red Road, Hiatus Road and Miramar Boulevard. Currently under construction, the 54-acre center plaza is expected to not only host its Cultural Center & Arts Park but also to house future retail, office and even residential space.

If the stroll down the park leaves you hungry, be sure to check out “Che, Pibe Argentinian Grill” for a taste of true ethnic Argentinian food. The restaurant offers everything found in the capital city of Buenos Aires, where meat on the grill is a specialty. The quality meat and the perfect amount of charcoal cultivate the flavor of each cut of meat, from skirt steak to the juiciest tenderloin-If you’re a meat-eater, you’ll want to swing by Che, Pibe.
