Hollywood, FL Donation Pickup
The Hollywood donation pickup area has a motion-picture history inspired by the original Hollywood in California. It was land developer Joseph Young, who first traveled to South Florida looking for a location to build his dream motion picture community in the early 1920s. He dreamed of building a motion picture colony on the East Coast of the United States, aptly naming the city after Hollywood, California. Young bought thousands of acres of land around 1920, and named his new town “Hollywood by the Sea.” In November of 1925, Hollywood became officially incorporated as a city dropping the “by the Sea” part from its previous naming. Construction was going wonderfully and plans were well underway to make Hollywood a thriving city of Broward County until the year 1926, when a hurricane destroyed much of the progress completed. Hollywood didn’t fully recover until after World War II when the population began to replenish. Today, Hollywood is the second largest city in the county, with a population of over 146,526 people.
Snowbirds, or tourists from cold parts of the globe who travel southwards for warmer weather in the winter, are the number one category of tourists visiting Hollywood, Florida. Not only is Hollywood the second biggest city in the county, it is also the twelfth largest city in Florida. With its large population of residents and visitors, it is no wonder the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) has added the Hollywood donation pickup area to its many cities of free donation pickups in South Florida, where the FBCF can send a driver to collect bags and boxes of donated household items, like old clothes, furniture, electronics and more to fund breast cancer research.
