Royal Palm Donation Pickup
When the Royal Palm Beach donation pickup area was first incorporated as a city, in 1959, it was nothing but swamp and wildlife, making it the official Seminole hunting grounds. Until Miami developer and founder of Lefcourt Realty Group, Arthur Desser, acquired 4,200 acres of this land for his development. Desser’s vision spurred the initial development of the Village of Royal Palm Beach. A massive drainage project ensued, and in 1959, the state legislature granted a charter which dubbed the development officially as Desser preferred, “Royal Palm Beach.” The name came out because Desser wanted to include the names of nearby developments called “Palm Beach,” but he also loved the local species of palm trees that grew in this swampy area called “royal” palms.
After its official incorporation in June of 1959, Royal Palm Beach hosted a developer-appointed council, which later became the official village government in 1964. In the late 1970s, the builders began to market the land heavily which resulted in great success. Several community schools were built and residents came pouring in to buy the properties in the market. Overall, that’s how Royal Palm Beach came to exist today, and without fearless pioneers such as Desser, we would not have our Royal Palm Beach donation pickup area. It took bravery to venture out into the swamp life and hope that inhabitable land would one day be established.
