Delray Beach Donation Pick Up
Before we had a Delray Beach donation pickup area, Delray Beach officially became a town in 1911, when pineapple and tomato canning plants were the primary crops of the area. The Pineapple farms left their mark, as some can still be found today at the Delray “Pineapple Grove” neighborhood by downtown Delray Beach.
A decade later, Delray Beach’s population reached 1,051. Following the drainage of the Everglades, the population expanded; however, the drainage resulted in catastrophe for the booming pineapple business. The water table was too low, making it difficult to grow the staple crop. Concurrently, the Florida East Coast Railway to Key West had just been extended, resulting in the distribution of Cuban pineapples, which became too strong of a competition.
Thankfully, the Florida land boom of the 1920s brought tourism and real estate investments, taking over the local economy. Delray was the largest town on the east coast of Florida for its time.
Today, Delray Beach is a first-class resort destination, due to its convenient location right on the Atlantic Ocean. Officially dubbed “Most Fun Small Town in the USA” by not only Rand McNally but also USA Today and the Travel Channel in 2012, Delray Beach was also a two-time winner of the coveted All-America City award in both 1993 and 2001. Delray should also be called “city with the most charitable people” in South Florida, because its gracious residents donate their old unwanted items to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) to help fund breast cancer research. Delray is one of many areas that are part of the FBCF’s donation pickup areas.
Delray Beach’s Atlantic Avenue spans from the heart of the town to the ocean, making it a popular destination for residents and tourists alike. The string of beach-chic style shops, restaurants and lounges line the strip of Atlantic Avenue. At night, the streets light up with nightlife and the pleasant breeze from the ocean shore. Locals and tourists can both enjoy a night out on the town, while their Delray Donation pickup happens simultaneously.
During the day, make sure to check out the twenty plus galleries and art pieces located downtown and in the Pineapple Grove Arts District. Discover what the locals call “Artists Alley,” where you can find artists that welcome walk-ins during their process in the studio.
